They’ve cited costs, worker safety concerns and a lack of consensus over fluoride’s health effects as reasons for the change. But McGill University dental professor Paul Allison says fluoride has been widely used for decades — across many forms, including toothpaste and mouthwash — to help reduce dental decay.
