The unfortunately named but popular powder-in-a-packet meal replacement Soylent is now shipping to Canada

For those of us who prefer actual food, this announcement is not earth shattering.

That said, the company has built up quite a committed and loyal Canadian fan base since its Silicon Valley beginnings in 2013 — and until now, Canada's Soylent-loving population had been feeling deprived.

This is the company's first foray into the international market, signaling a growing customer base of people who like their food in the form of a beige-coloured shake.

It's important to note, for those who aren't aware, that Soylent is not made of humans like its namesake from the 1973 movie Soylent Green.

Rather, it is a concoction of carbohydrates, protein, fats and vitamins, including rice protein, oats, flour and soy. It also contains Canola oil powder and a thickening agent.

According to post on Soylent's blog this week, the product can be shipped to all 10 provinces, including Nunavut, where sky high food prices leave many people hungry — a fact that was not lost on some Twitter users.

However, Soylent is popular with the health-minded and nutritionally conscious, and many of them in Canada were happy to hear the news.
