Temper-tantrum toddler finally gets to meet Harjit Sajjan
2-year-old gets personal tour of Parliament with defence minister
The two-year-old who threw a tantrum after missing Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan during Canada Day celebrations because he was at home in Vancouver finally got her way.
Sophia Popalyar was invited to Parliament where she met Sajjan and was given a personalized tour by the minister.
"Let's go sit in the Speaker's chair," Sajjan said to the toddler in a video posted by the Liberal Party of Canada on Thursday.
The minister then explains to his young fan a Speaker's job is "like the principal" as she pressed buttons on the motor-powered chair.
He hands her several gifts including a miniature hockey stick, they fist bump, and Sajjan concludes by saying he expects the politically astute toddler will be imparting her wisdom very soon.
Popalyar went viral last fall when her dad posted a video of her rhyming off the names of several cabinet ministers.
On Canada Day, Popalyar was headed to Parliament Hill for celebrations where she thought she would see Sajjan. So when her family decided to turn around and head home because of rain, she burst into tears.
Her father filmed the hysterics, posting the video online.
"I want to go to Parliament," she's heard crying in the video. "To see who?" her dad asks. "To see Harjit Sajjan," she whines.
Days later, Sajjan responded to Popalyar's teary video by promising a meetup which he delivered on today.
