Samantha Bee leaves The Daily Show to start her own satirical news program

A product of Toronto, Samantha Bee began her career performing as a member of the all-female sketch comedy troupe The Atomic Fireballs.

First Jon Stewart and now Samantha Bee.

The Canadian comedian is leaving The Daily Show to host a new satirical program on the U.S. network TBS. The show is in early stages of development, according to the network. In addition to hosting, Bee will also serve as executive producer along with her husband, and fellow The Daily Show alumnus, Jason Jones.

The move comes after the announcement that Bee and Jones will create and executive produce a scripted comedy show for TBS based on the couple's experiences with family vacations. The so-far untitled series will star Jones.

Bee has not cut ties entirely with The Daily Show. She will continue to do bits until production begins on the scripted series.

Bee and Jones have worked together before outside The Daily Show, co-starring in the film Coopers' Christmas

In addition to the TBS projects, Bee is also slated for a role in the upcoming Tina Fey and Amy Poehler project Sisters.

Many inside and outside Canada had been rooting for Bee, who was born and raised in Toronto, to take over from Stewart as host of The Daily Show. Bee has been one of the show's longest serving correspondents, joining the "Best F#@king News Team" in 2003.
