Matt Damon mocks Republicans with support for wall across Canadian border

In a slight jab at the Republicans, Matt Damon jokingly told a reporter that he is in favour of building a wall on the Canadian border.

In an apparent jab at the current crop of Republican candidates, Matt Damon has voiced sarcastic support for building a wall between Canada and the United States to help fight illegal immigration.

"I'm really glad that we're gonna be putting up this wall, you know, to separate these Canadians from coming in," Damon, who is north of the border for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), told the Associated Press. "I think it's a really good allocation of our resources."

Republican presidential contender Scott Walker has spoken in favour of constructing a wall on the Canadian border, while Donald Trump has been an outspoken supporter of a wall between the United States and Mexico.

However, Trump, who says he "loves Canada," doesn't support building a wall on the Canadian border.

According to Damon, the border wall would have to be enormous to keep Canadians out.

"Remember, they're athletic," he said. "They're an athletic, outdoorsy people so we're gonna need a few storeys."

He even went so far as to compare Canadians with some other famous invaders from "outside the wall."

"Maybe kind of like the Game of Thrones wall to the north," he said. "You guys are white walkers. We've gotta keep you guys out."

Damon's new film The Martian had its international premier at TIFF on Friday.

The Martian opens to North American audiences on Oct. 2.
