Damn, Daniel! Mock fashion video goes viral

The phrase "Damn, Daniel" was trending on Twitter and Google in Canada over the weekend, and it was all because of an odd little video mocking some kid's prosaic fashion sense.

'Back at it again with the white vans!'

The phrase "Damn, Daniel" was trending on Twitter and Google in Canada over the weekend, and it wasn't because of the third-period heroics of a Sedin or a celebrity scandal involving a Radcliffe.

No, the Daniel in this case is Daniel Lara, and he's just some kid in California.

But social media is a place where Daniel's buddy Joshua Holtz can make a video ribbing him for his wardrobe choices and it will be seen by millions of people in just a week.

"Daaaamn, Daniel!" Josh repeatedly exclaims in mock awe of Daniel's T-shirt-and-jeans fashion sense.

"Back at it again with the white Vans!" teases Josh, noting Daniel's blindingly unscuffed kicks.

And that's it. Thirty seconds of video shot at a high school in Riverside, Calif., over what looks like a week or so.

But an absurd premise and a well-delivered catchphrase can go a long way online.

Since it was posted a week ago, Josh's original Twitter video post has been retweeted more than 260,000 times, but it's been reposted on other accounts and services around the world.

Like a lot of memes, "Damn, Daniel" is bound to have a short shelf life, but for a while, it will be all some folks will be thinking about.

The catchphrase got the requisite remix

Josh and Daniel have a fan in Cameron Dallas, a Vine video phenom with more than six million followers on Twitter

A Twitter account dedicated to men's fashion offered tips on how to get that #DamnDaniel look

And the pair even got a shout-out from the makers of those famous shoes
