2016 Juno nominations spur #JunosSoMale hashtag

This year's Juno artist of the year nominees make up a diverse group in terms of musical style, ranging from indie crooner City and Colour to pop sensation Justin Bieber, but they have one key thing in common — all of them are men.

This year's Juno artist of the year nominees make up a diverse group in terms of musical style, ranging from indie crooner City and Colour to pop sensation Justin Bieber, but they have one key thing in common — all of them are men.

And the male nominations don't end there. All of the nominees for album of the year, rock album of the year, rap recording of the year and dance recording of the year are men.

Indie musician Amy Millan started the hashtag #JunosSoMale (a play on #OscarsSoWhite)

Millan wasn't the only one who noticed the testosterone-heavy nomination list

Others wished specific female artists had been tapped for the top awards

Last year, Sarah McLachlan was nominated for artist of the year, but the album of the year nominees were all male.
