Boy's Lionel Messi plastic bag jersey steals internet's heart

A five-year-old-boy from Afghanistan has become a star after photos of him wearing a Lionel Messi jersey made of a plastic bag began circulating online.

His brother made the jersey for him from a grocery bag

A five-year-old boy in Afghanistan has become a social media star after pictures of him wearing a homemade soccer jersey made from a plastic bag began circulating online.

Murtaza Ahmadi lives in the war-torn Ghazni province, southwest of Kabul.

He's a soccer fanatic, and Barcelona star Lionel Messi is his favourite player.

According to Agence France Presse, Ahmadi's 15-year-old brother Homayoun made him his very own Messi jersey from a blue and white striped plastic bag, the same colours Messi sports as captain of the Argentine national squad.

The photos were posted earlier this month, and after some initial confusion, Ahmadi soon started making fans of his own.

According to this fan account, he's caught Messi's eye as well.
