Northern Lights swirl above Earth in space images

Stunning images captured above Earth by NASA and the International Space Station show a haze of bright colours from the northern lights illuminating the night sky in North America.

The phenomenon, also known as Aurora Borealis, was caused by an aggressive solar storm.
