Google, Twitter bring tweets to Google Search
Only in mobile searches in U.S. for now, but will expand to desktop web, other countries
Searching for a person or organization such as Taylor Swift or NASA will pull up their tweets, as well as tweets about them, in addition to other search results. Searches for hashtags such as #MadMenFinale will also generate results from Twitter.
The feature launched today in the U.S. for searches done using a mobile device — either through the mobile web or the Google app.
"It's a great way to get real-time info when something is happening," wrote Ardan Arac, senior product manager at Google, on the company's official blog. "And it's another way for organizations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments."
Twitter said on its blog that the desktop web version of the feature is coming soon, and there are plans to bring it to more countries in coming months.
