NASA astronaut Scott Kelly confident humans can go to Mars, but should we?
NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returned from the International Space Station this week. The journey ended a 340-day mission that set a U.S. record and led Kelly to remark that a Mars trip is possible.
"Going to Mars, if it takes 2½ years, yeah, that's doable," the astronaut said. "There's still things we have to learn, but we can learn them."
NASA wants to know how the body and mind adjust to long periods in space before sending astronauts to Mars; expeditions are planned for the 2030s.
