Prince Charles praised "unity through diversity" in an interview with CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos that will air next week.

"The key is to encourage diversity, that you can create it," Charles said. "You create the unity through recognizing people's individual cultures and outlook.

"What I try to do is enable people to feel pride in their own culture and identity."

Charles and his wife, Camilla, begin a four-day visit to Canada in Nova Scotia on Sunday.

During the interview, Stroumboulopoulos identified a maple leaf motif in the prince's tie and asked about his relationship with Canada.

"You're the one who could tell me," Charles joked before adding that he enjoys "seeing Canadians everywhere" and has "a great interest in everything that's going on in Canada."

The full interview will air next week.
