As the House prepares to shut down for the weekend, all three opposition leaders are set to hit the weekend pre-campaign trail, starting with New Democrat Leader Tom Mulcair, who is off to Toronto to deliver a mid-morning speech at the CUPE Ontario annual conference.

Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau continues his West Coast swing with a tour of the Vancouver Harbour, while Green Party Leader Elizabeth May heads home to Sidney to officially launch her re-election campaign.

On the Friday ministerial circuit:

  • Treasury Board President Tony Clement makes what the advisory describes as "an important announcement about nutrition labelling" during a visit to the Maple Leaf Gardens Loblaws store.
  • Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander updates reporters on "the success of the Start-up Visa Program" alongside a group of new permanent residents at the Toronto Business Development Centre, and Minister of State for Seniors Alice Wong drops by the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged with new funding for seniors.
  • Meanwhile, Laureen Harper joins International Development Minister Christian Paradis at the Centre for International Governance Innovation for the launch of UNICEF Canada's 25th Team, an "innovative partnership with influential Canadian women and the Government of Canada to save children's lives."
  • Also out and about today: Minister of State for FedDev Ontario Gary Goodyear, who will share the details of "an important investment in space research and development" during a visit to Cambridge-based COM DEV International.
  • Minister of State for Sport Bal Gosal will be in the crowd at Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton, which is slated to be the scene of an international exhibition soccer match between Canada and England — which is, as per the advisory, "a warm-up for the FIFA 2015 Women's World Cup."
  • At half-time, Gosal and local MP Mike Wallace will launch the #HighFive campaign — a new UN-driven initiative to raise funds for maternal, newborn and child health in Haiti — by "high-fiving soccer stars and leading the crowd in breaking the world record for the most people giving high-fives at one time."
  • Elsewhere in the province, Associate National Defence Minister Julian Fantino will make what the notice promises will be a "significant infrastructure announcement" at Garrison Petawawa
  • Moving west, Employment Minister Pierre Poilievre touts the newly boosted Universal Child Care Benefit at the Boys and Girls Club of Saskatoon before heading to Prairieland Park to take part in the 2015 Skills Canada National Competition.
  • Finally, Minister of State for Western Diversification Michelle Rempel shows her government's support for organic grain farmers, as well as "the commercialization of micro- and nano-coated products" during back-to-back events in Edmonton.

Back in Ottawa, MPs will devote the remaining half-day of scheduled sitting time to the final round of Commons debate on the government's latest proposal to streamline Canada's firearms laws before turning their attention to Independent MP Manon Perreault's bid to create National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, which is now at report stage and poised to win the final approval of the House.
