The probe into suspended senator Mike Duffy's spending has already produced substantial paperwork through copies of emails, court filings and other documents both he and the RCMP have used to bolster their sides of the case.
CBC News has collected the key publicly disclosed documents, starting with the Senate's own records outlining what senators may claim, and culminating with the affidavits filed by the RCMP as they compiled the information they say shows the former Conservative senator committed fraud and breach of trust.
Senate documents
- Senate travel policy, which lists the amount senators can claim.
- Senate primary and secondary residence declaration form.
- Senate statement of qualification, including home province.
- May 7, 2013 Deloitte audit into Duffy's primary and secondary residences.
- Original, unedited May 9, 2013 report by the Senate internal economy committee on Duffy's expense claims, which makes it clear the committee believed Duffy's primary residence was in Ottawa and not Prince Edward Island. The edited version left out that conclusion.
Emails and other correspondence
- July, 2009 email exchange in which Duffy sought cabinet perks for the work he was doing on behalf of the Conservative Party.
- A Jan. 3, 2013 memo regarding an unnamed senator's request to P.E.I. Health Minister Doug Currie about speeding up the process to get a health card. The senator's name is redacted. A health card was one of the pieces of identification senators could use to prove their residency.
- March 21, 2013 letter from Senator Marjory LeBreton, then the government's Senate leader, to the PMO regarding its reaction to the possibility of creating a committee to address the Senate's travel rules. The documents were contained in the November, 2013 court documents filed by the RCMP.
- March, 2013 emails and drafts regarding PMO advice to Harper on a response to LeBreton. The documents were contained in the November, 2013 RCMP court documents.
- Documents tabled in the Senate by Duffy on Oct. 29, 2013, when he addressed the allegations ahead of a vote to suspend him and two other senators facing similar allegations. They include a cheque from the Conservative Party's lawyer to cover Duffy's legal fees and emails from Nigel Wright, Prime Minister Stephen Harper's former chief of staff.
- Dec. 1, 2013 letter the Privy Council Office wrote to the RCMP to say they had found the emails of former PMO lawyer Benjamin Perrin, which were previously thought to have been deleted.
Court filings
- June 24, 2013 Information to Obtain a production order (ITO) detailing the RCMP's allegations that Duffy submitted fraudulent housing and per diem expenses.
- Oct. 8, 2013 ITO detailing the RCMP's belief that Duffy paid his friend Gerry Donohue $65,000 for no apparent work.
- Nov. 17, 2013 ITO alleging Duffy and Wright participated in bribery. The RCMP later said the evidence collected didn't support a charge against Wright, but the Mounties did charge Duffy with receiving a bribe.
- A list of documents, including emails and bank records, sought in the ITO.
- Nov. 20, 2013 addition to the ITO.
- July 17, 2014 charge sheet, the official paperwork filed by the RCMP with the court.
Statements
- July 17, 2014 statement by Duffy's lawyer, Donald Bayne, regarding the 31 charges laid.
