Sudbury's first solar farm set to come online
Valley East site to generate electricity for about 1,500 homes, businesses
The first solar farm in Greater Sudbury could be generating electricity at full capacity soon.
Construction at the Valley East site is in its final stages. The company behind the project — Canadian Solar — is waiting for the Ontario Power Authority to approve commercial operations.
Jeff Roy is the director of projects and engineering for Canadian Solar. He says the local community will gain from the project.
"The long term benefit is renewable energy project being added to the mix of generation in Ontario," he said. "There are some ... tax benefits to installing the project. So there's positive benefits there to the local community."
Roy said the solar farm sits on about 70 acres of land. It should generate electricity for about 1,500 homes and businesses every year.
