French may be one of Canada's official languages, but it's not a particularly popular mother tongue in Calgary.

Still, there are pockets of Francophone households throughout the city, concentrated more in some areas than others.

As part of the 2016 Census, Calgarians are currently being surveyed about which languages they speak, but we thought we'd take a look at the latest, previous measurement of the city's French-speaking population.

The data comes from Statistics Canada's 2011 National Household Survey, which found fewer than one per cent of Calgarians speak French as a primary language at home.
