The program is famous for its range of topics and tones and for talking to people at the heart of the story. If a political scandal is brewing, we will be chasing the politician at the center of it. If a natural disaster strikes, we will be talking to someone in the thick of it. If a guy has a cockroach stuck in his ear, we will be talking to that guy. As It Happens has been CBC's award winning evening current affairs flagship for more than 50 years. It's a great place to learn and develop your pitching, chasing, editing and writing. You'll work alongside world-class hosts. There are opportunities to contribute to our streaming and digital copy editions. We provide a specific mentor on the show and you will definitely have work to do. We like to think it's a pretty fun place to work too. | Listen to As It Happens. A lot. |
| Cross Country Checkup | ✅ | ✅ | A CCCU intern gets to do it all. From pitching, chasing and writing scripts....to actually working on the team as the show goes to air LIVE. Checkup is the only show that offers interns both TV and radio experience. A CCCU intern will be able to say they produced items and helped put a live radio and TV show to air by the end of their internship. We also offer entry level shifts for screeners beyond the internship (for those based in Toronto or Vancouver). Note: The schedule is Wed-Sun. | Listen to the show! We answer your pressing questions on the news of the day, and are your errand buddy as you try get answers to everyday questions around health, money and technology. As an intern, you'll get an opportunity to chase guests, do pre-interviews, write scripts and work on taped items. This is your chance to leave your mark on a show that's less than a year old! As an idea-generating machine, you come up with original and focused story ideas and pitch them effectively in meetings. You love coming up with creative treatments for all platforms, including digital and social. And you are experienced in gathering sound and images in the field and passionate about weaving those elements into a compelling arc. | |

It is a podcast-first network daily program that is delivered on several platforms (audio, video, digital, podcast) and we offer a wide range of learning opportunities for students who are interested in arts/entertainment. Commotion is the sister program to Q, and features thoughtful and vibrant conversations about all things pop culture. It is a daily live broadcast. The intern will be expected to participate and learn from both teams. | The Sunday Magazine | ✅ | ❌ | The Sunday Magazine is radio to savour. It's a lively, wide ranging, long-form program that responds to the week that was and the one ahead. It reflects a true magazine format by covering what Canadians care about – culture, politics, global affairs, health, climate, the economy, media, breaking news, and more. It introduces new voices and fresh perspectives that represent modern Canada via a range via conversations with newsmakers, cultural icons, big thinkers, up-and-comers, panels, tape segments, and documentaries. Opportunities for interns may include pitching stories that reflect the weekly news cycle; supporting producers with gathering background, identifying and chasing guests, and writing scripts; gathering and editing tape; supporting digital treatments; and observing the live show go to air. | CBC Comedy: Because News | ✅ | ✅ | Because News is CBC's weekly news quiz, where host Gavin Crawford quizzes comedians about the headlines. It's one of CBC's most popular radio shows and podcasts. The goal of the show is to be informative, fun and satirical. Interns will get the opportunity to be creative by joining the writers room and making content for social media. The intern will also have the opportunity to pitch stories, fact-check and assist with our live studio taping. If you enjoy entertaining Canadians with facts, this is the gig for you! Note: The schedule is M-F (9am-5pm except Thurs 1pm-9pm). | Become familiar with the format of Because News by listening to a few of the latest episodes. Get caught up on the news to help chime in during pitch meetings. It would also help to research social media strategies of other quiz shows. |

| Interns will rotate between 2 programs: • The World This Hour • World Report | ✅ | ✅ | CBC's network radio news programs offer the best of daily journalism. You'll get hands-on skills alongside our producers, writing news stories and working with audio in a fast-paced news environment. The World This Hour: Canada's only round the clock hourly radio newscast. Working here requires every skill needed for producing any kind of audio content. Editorial judgment, writing, working with reporters, vetting script, finding and editing audio, all under fast hourly deadlines. We are heard on CBC Radio One, Two and every imaginable phone or device. Note: The schedule is M-F, 11am to 7:15pm. World Report: A small but mighty team, bringing Canadians what they need to know to start their day. The hours are grueling, but the work is satisfying. We work fast and furious to hit our first early morning deadlines, we check in with correspondents around the world, and when news breaks or there's a major development, we pivot on the spot to bring our 1-million-daily listeners the latest. This is a great place to dive in and try news with a team of people who love to talk about the craft of audio storytelling. Note: The schedule is M-F, 3:30am-11:15am. | Ontario Morning | ✅ | ✅ | Daily news based current affairs show covering central Ontario from Cornwall to Owen Sound, with Kingston, Barrie, and Peterborough as our major centres. With such variety in communities, we offer opportunities to chase a wide range of stories, from hard/breaking news and current events to fun features and human interest stories. Focus is on finding and assessing grassroots, diverse voices, original stories and fresh angles on reported news. Creativity and a sense of fun are as valued as journalistic rigour, and because the team is small there is opportunity to learn a wide range of skills, with support and mentoring at hand. We're plugged into daily issues that get Canadians talking. We provide audiences access to big thinkers, diverse perspectives and analysis that helps people make sense of their world. In this role, your daily assignment will vary. You pitch, chase, write scripts, cut tape and could bring stories to air through reporter debriefs, tape talks and paks. You are purposeful in finding the right person with the right perspective to provide analysis to 12 or more radio programs daily. Your scripts get to the heart of the story quickly. | Kitchener Waterloo | ✅ | ✅ | CBC Kitchener Waterloo is a eight-person shop based in downtown Kitchener, Ont. Our journalists contribute live interviews, taped content and news to our live radio show (which airs weekdays between 6-830, hosted by Craig Norris at 89.1FM and on CBC Listen), our website using their writing, photography and video skills (cbc.ca/kw) and social media. Working in a small station like Kitchener-Waterloo will give the chance to try a variety of roles and storytelling techniques that you might not get in a larger station or on a national show, where roles and duties are less fluid. | Be prepared to tell stories about Waterloo region that other people, other news organizations aren't aren't telling. | News Network: Morning | ✅ | ✅ | CBC News Morning Live is the team that launches the day, letting Canadians know what has changed overnight and what you can expect to spark a national conversation --from the serious to entertaining. It's an exciting opportunity to shape coverage on the network through a dynamic program hosted by award-winning anchor Heather Hiscox. The role involves all aspects of interview producing -- from the pitch, finding credible guests and screening them to the on-air production, so we can best tell their stories. Through this internship you will also gain new skills in finding appropriate visuals, writing introductions and more advanced on-air treatments. This is an opportunity to see all parts of the operation, to see how it all comes together. Our interns are encouraged to research and pitch story treatments which is valuable experience that translates to any news operation. We also react to and cover breaking news as it happens on weekends. This means our interns also get first-hand experience working in the most fast-paced newsroom possible. | News Network: Canada Tonight | ✅ | ✅ | Interns are members of a team responsible for a two-hour news program during prime time on CBC News Network. The role involves pitching news stories and interviews on a daily basis. The candidate is responsible for finding credible guests, pre-interviewing guests and writing greens with a focus statement and potential questions for the news anchor. It also involves finding visuals and relevant information to support the interview. The intern will also be responsible for writing short introductions that will air on the program. | CBC Kids News | ✅ | ✅ | At CBC Kids we are building a legacy product for tweens. We are a digital news service that raises kids' voices, reflects their world back to them and helps provide context so that they can better understand the stories, issues and events that impact their lives. We don't mean to brag but we are a FUN team. We are a mix of adults and kids from across the country. Together we cover real news that kids care about. We take pride in providing a safe space for kids while working on trending and timely stories. NOTE: Placement is WFH except every second Wed is in-office. | The first thing you should do to prepare is to seek out kids who are 9-13 and look to them to understand how they think, the topics they're interested in and try to understand what is "news" for them. Even ask them to take a look at cbckidsnews.ca and ask their opinion. What do they like, hate, feel is missing? You should also familiarize yourself with the site to make sure you are familiar with the stories we've published, the different formats and tone. |
| Photo Desk/Web Daily Desk | ✅ | ❌ | If you want to hone your photojournalism skills, build your portfolio and learn from the best, apply for a six-week, unpaid internship with CBC's Photo Desk in Toronto. We provide all the gear (it's like Christmas!) and the opportunity to shoot daily news, features, sports and portraiture for our national platforms. If selected, you will first spend a week in orientation and given ample time to shadow our award-winning photojournalists and videographers before being sent on assignments in the Greater Toronto Area. At minimum, you must be a photojournalism student or a journalism student with photo training and experience shooting for school or community papers (in a graduating year). | You should be very familiar with CBCNews.ca and read other news sites as well as the picture agencies. |
