Looking forward after a day of reflection

To mark the anniversary of the first Idle No More national day of action, an evening of celebration is planned in Ottawa tonight. Niigaan: In Conversation is hosted by activist/comedian Ryan McMahon, and includes journalist Wab Kinew, Grand Chief Derek Nepinak, author Lee Maracle and academic Leanne Simpson.

It's been a day full of reflection. People are remembering the last year of Idle No More, Chief Spence's hunger strike and the last time AFN Chiefs met in Ottawa.

Tonight a group of leading Indigenous thinkers are getting together to look to the future.

Niigaan: In Conversation is hosted by activist/comedian Ryan McMahon, and includes journalist Wab Kinew, Grand Chief Derek Nepinak, author Lee Maracle and academic Leanne Simpson.

Their panel discussion will ask what happened to the fire? And explore what's next for the movement.

CBC journalist Waubgeshig Rice will be covering the event and you can join the conversation along with the CBC Aboriginal team here at 8:00 EST for our live blog coverage.
