X-Files set for a ratings touchdown with 2016 premiere
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully return to television on Jan. 24, 2016, Fox says
Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will return to television in The X-Files reboot on Jan. 24, 2016, Fox announced Monday.
And the network is positioning the hotly anticipated premiere to nab the most eyeballs possible.
The network will air the first episode in the six-episode revival just after the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game.
Last year's match between the Packers-Seahawks game averaged 49.8 million viewers, according to the NFL, and many will likely stick around to see the first new X-Files episode in 13 years.
The second episode will air the following night at 8 p.m. ET, where it will settle into its Monday night time-slot.
Original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI agents tasked with investigating mysterious cases.
Premiering in 1993, the popular paranormal show went on to become one of the longest-running sci-fi series in American TV history. It also garnered 62 Emmy nominations and 16 awards.
Production is slated to resume in Vancouver this summer where five of the show's nine seasons were shot.
