Woody Allen film, Bono movie to screen at Toronto film festival

Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream and the movie musical Across The Universe, starring rock star Bono, will be gala presentations at this year's Toronto International Film Festival.

Woody Allen's latest film starring Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as brothers, Cassandra's Dream, will be screened at this year's Toronto International Film Festival.

Organizers announced Thursday that the film as well as Across The Universe by Julie Taymor will be added to the Gala Presentations at the festival running from Sept. 6 to 15.

In a new release, Cassandra's Dream is described as a "powerful and thrilling story about two brothers … who are desperate to better their troubled lives.One is a chronic gambler up to his ears in debt; the other is a young man in love with a beautiful actress."

The film, made in London, England, features an original score by Phillip Glass.

Taymor's movie concernstwo star-crossed lovers and is set against the backdrop of the anti-war years of the 1960s.The director, known for bringing to screen Frida and Titus as well as staging Broadway musicals, has melded cinema with musical theatre.

The film is described as a "groundbreaking movie musical" using 30 songs from that time period to tell the story.Starring U2 frontman Bono and actors Evan Rachel Wood and Eddie Izzard, the film takes audiences from Liverpool to Detroit to Vietnam.

Some of the music featured includes Beatles songs such as Hey Jude and All You Need is Love.

This year's Toronto festival kicks off with the Canadian film Fugitive Pieces as the opening night gala.

Movies starring Ryan Gosling, Cate Blanchett, George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Jodie Foster and Joaquin Phoenix are alsoin the 2007 lineup.
