The Breakfast Club returning to Canadian theatres for 30th anniversary
John Hughes's 1985 movie to screen at Cineplex theatres on March 21 and 25
Teens of the Eighties: it's time to slouch your socks, feather those bangs and head back to detention: The Breakfast Club is turning 30.
To celebrate, John Hughes's classic coming-of-age movie is coming back to Canadian theatres for a nostalgic encore, movie chain Cineplex announced on Wednesday.
Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy star as five disparate high-schoolers forced to endure a Saturday of detention at the hands of the villainous Principal Vernon (played by the late Paul Gleason.)
The Breakfast Club is just one in a string of John Hughes movies, like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, that centred on and celebrated the pains and pleasures of North American teenagers.
But for many, The Breakfast Club represents the pinnacle of the '80s teen flick.
"We are proud to take part in the 30th anniversary celebration of this iconic film," said Cineplex executive Brad LaDouceur in a statement. "The Breakfast Club is truly a film that defined a genre, and even a generation."
The re-mastered 30th anniversary release will also include a re-mixed bonus retrospective featuring original cast members and contributors.
The Breakfast Club will screen at select theatres on March 21 and 25 only.
