Sum 41 frontman in hospital after bar fight
Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has been taken to hospital in Japan after being attacked in a bar, according to the band.
The Ajax, Ont., pop-punkers wrote about the incident on their Twitter account around midnight ET on Friday.
"Deryck Whibley was attacked in a bar last night by three unknown people," they wrote. "He is in the hospital now. Japanese police are looking into the matter."
The Juno Award-winning band soon added an update on their website.
"It is unfortunate to say, but Deryck Whibley is still in the hospital. He was attacked late last night in Japan. We are waiting for results and we are hoping for the best. Thanks for your support."
The band had two remaining tour dates scheduled in Osaka, Japan before closing out the summer with shows in the U.S. and Europe.
The alleged attack comes only days after Sum 41 announced the cancellation of several Warped Tour dates in Chicago, Minneapolis and Kansas City because Whibley had come down with a serious case of bronchitis.
The 30-year-old Whibley was married to fellow Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne, but the couple announced their separation last September.
