Stephen Colbert crashes RNC stage for Hunger Games prank
'I'm not supposed to be up here, but let's be honest, neither is Donald Trump,' comedian quips
A video posted online shows Late Show host Stephen Colbert taking over the microphone on stage in Cleveland in a Hunger Games themed prank at the site of the Republican National Convention, which got underway Monday.
The video shows Colbert behind the podium saying it's his honour "to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican Hungry for Power Games" and banging a gavel.
A man who appears to be security then confronts Colbert, who says: "I know I'm not supposed to be up here, but let's be honest, neither is Donald Trump" before being led off stage.
Colbert dressed like Hunger Games emcee Caesar Flickerman for the spoof, complete with a blue wig. He's worn the same getup on his show in a recurring bit about departing candidates during the presidential campaign.
It also seemed like old times from Comedy Central last night as Colbert called on his old Daily Show boss Jon Stewart to do a bit on the Republican convention.
Stewart was holed up in his hermit cabin, as Colbert went to tell him about the GOP presidential candidate. Stewart thinks it's Jeb Bush. But Stewart does a spit-take when he learns it's going to be Donald Trump.
Later in the show, Colbert reprised his Colbert Report character to comment on the convention.
He said: "People who don't support Trump feel like the world has gone crazy. Well, get in line."
Colbert is doing his Late Show live this week, following GOP convention coverage. Stewart will also be making more appearances.
