South Pacific en route to Toronto

Dancap Productions announced Thursday that is bringing the touring show of the New York production to Toronto.

Dancap has signed an agreement with the Four Seasons Centre to use the 2,000-seat venue during the summer months.

Dancap says South Pacific will be part of its summer season of musicals, but did not announce any other shows.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is known for songs such as Some Enchanted Evening, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, This Nearly Was Mine and There is Nothin' Like a Dame.

Set on a South Pacific island during the Second World War, the story is about American men and women struggling to accept people of another race and culture.

The 2008 revival of the musical for the Lincoln Center Theatre in New York won seven Tony Awards including best musical revival and best director for Bartlett Sher.

A touring show is appearing throughout the U.S. South Pacific will run Aug. 12 to Sept. 5, 2010 in Toronto.

Dancap says it will announce more shows for the summer of 2010 in the coming months.
