Shania Twain signs on for 2 years in Las Vegas

Canadian singer Shania Twain is heading to Las Vegas for a two-year residency at Caesars Palace, starting in December 2012.

Twain is in the midst of a big comeback, with the release of her autobiography, a new TV show, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a new love.

In an online news conference Wednesday, the singer from Timmins, Ont, announced she is set to perform 60 shows a year in Las Vegas, marking a major return to live appearances.

"I'm beyond excited," Twain said during the news conference.

"I feel like I'm on the top of the world. Honestly, I feel like I've climbed a very giant mountain and I'm just standing right on top with my arms open wide. This is really beautiful, really lovely, I'm very excited today."

In her OWN reality show Why Not? With Shania Twain, she revealed that she had lost the use of her voice because of the stress of her breakup with music producer husband Robert (Mutt) Lange.

But the show finishes June 17, with the story of her recovery and marriage to Swiss business executive Frédéric Thiébaud. Twain, whose hits include Feel Like a Woman and You're Still the One, has a cameo on the CMT music awards on Wednesday evening. She'll do a Thelma & Louise-themed skit with hot young star Taylor Swift.

And she said Wednesday she can scarcely wait to get back to live performance.

"Today is a turning point for me. I feel as though I'm about to step into a world of endless creative possibilities and that is so exciting for a songwriter, for an artist, to take songs and translate them into such a magical place, on a magical platform," Twain said of the Vegas gig.

"So this will be like no other platform I've ever been on before with my songs. It's a whole new beginning, I think, for the old music, if you will."

Canada's Céline Dion had a five-year stint at the Colosseum in Las Vegas that ended in 2007 and returned to the stage there in March.
