Rolling Stone Richards undergoes head surgery

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards underwent surgery in a New Zealand hospital Monday for a head injury suffered in a recent fall, according to the band's official website.

"The operation was a complete success and Keith is already up and talking with his family today," read a statement on the band's official website. "He will need a few weeks recuperation."

The 62-year-old musician fell – according to some reports, whileclimbing a tree –during avacation in Fiji. Hewastaken to Ascot Hospital in Aucklandto be treated for a"mild concussion."

Richards felt well enough to be released last Tuesday. However, he returned to the hospital on Sunday afterexperiencing headaches.

"Doctors thought it prudent tomove ahead with a small operation to remove the pressure," the band said.

Representatives for the Stones had previously deniedreports that Richards had suffered a brain hemorrhage in the fall.

Last week, the band said it would resume the final leg of its currentconcert tour as scheduled on May 27 in Barcelona.

However,following Richards's surgery on Monday, the start of the 35-date European tour has been moved back to June, withdetails about rescheduled dates expectedshortly.
