Remembering Michael Jackson: staffers share memories in new book
Remember The Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in his Final Days comes ahead of death anniversary
Washing dishes, helping with homework or delivering tough lectures are not the typical scenes fans think of when imagining the King of Pop, but these are the everyday moments experienced by two of Michael Jackson's former staffers.
Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard, who served on Jackson's private security detail during the final two years of his life, are sharing warm memories of the pop icon in their new book Remember The Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in his Final Days.
Despite the tumult around Jackson — including the times when he couldn't pay them — the pair say loyalty to the singer and his family kept them on the job.
"He trusted us. There were very few people in his life who he could really trust," Whitfield told CBC News.
"We just felt 'We can't walk away from him.'"
Jackson died on June 25, 2009, from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol.
In the attached video, Whitfield and Beard share memories about the private, human side of the King of Pop with CBC's Zulekha Nathoo.
