People's Choice Awards: Ellen's winning record, Fifth Harmony's quartet debut
Canadian Lilly Singh wins for favourite YouTube star, Tyler Perry honoured as humanitarian
Ellen DeGeneres set a record at the People's Choice Awards, becoming the winningest entertainer in the show's history, while popular singing group Fifth Harmony made a splash debuting as a quartet at the starry ceremony.
DeGeneres picked up three trophies at Wednesday's event: favourite comedic collaboration (sharing the award with Britney Spears), favourite daytime TV host and favourite animated movie voice, for Finding Dory. Meanwhile, the blockbuster animated movie was named both favourite film and favourite family film.
Overall, DeGeneres has a career total of 20 People's Choice wins.
Fifth Harmony gave its first performance since Camila Cabello's high-profile departure in December to pursue a solo career. The girl group performed its biggest hit, Work From Home, on the Microsoft Theater stage in Los Angeles.
Each member got a share of the spotlight with her name shown on the big screen above the stage while singing a solo verse. DJ Khaled presented the foursome with its second straight favourite group award after the set.
A star-studded night
Britney Spears was the evening's big winner, picking up four trophies including favourite female musical artist.
Canadian winners included Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds, with the Vancouver performer named favourite movie actor, and Toronto's online video sensation Lilly Singh, named favourite YouTube star.
Others who took home crystal statuettes this year included Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp, Sofia Vergara, Kevin Hart, Melissa McCarthy and Justin Timberlake.
Tyler Perry received the humanitarian award at the show, hosted by Joel McHale at the Microsoft Theatre and broadcast on CBS.
