With Zootopia, the studio behind Bambi, Dumbo and The Lion King presents a new talking-animals tale — with a twist.

In the bustling, incredibly detailed metropolis of the title, animals of all species mix and mingle. But beneath the puns and anthropomorphic antics, Disney is exploring a story about race relations.

Zootopia, which centres on an animal metropolis' first-ever bunny officer and a scam-artist fox, is a surprisingly sophisticated analogy for race relations, says Eli Glasner. (Walt Disney Animation Studios )

It's surprisingly sophisticated, finding new ways to get us to look past stereotypes, says CBC's Eli Glasner. Too bad the movie's conclusion isn't as inventive.
