Singer bows out of upcoming gigs to rest and recover

Michael Bublé is set to undergo vocal cord surgery, forcing the award-winning Canadian crooner to withdraw from several high-profile events in the coming weeks.

The Burnaby, B.C. singer posted a letter to fans via social media on Wednesday sharing the news.

The surgery "will require a period of time for me to rest and recover. No talking or singing for awhile but my doctors expect a complete recovery," he said via Twitter.

Bublé had been set to receive the National Arts Centre Award at the upcoming Governor General's Performing Arts Awards in Ottawa in June. His presentation will be moved to 2017, he noted.

"We look forward to welcoming him to Ottawa with his family in 2017 to receive the NAC Award," Peter Herrndorf, the president and CEO of the National Arts Centre, said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Bublé will now be celebrated during the 25th anniversary edition of the gala on June 29th, 2017, according to the NAC.

A Juno and Grammy Award-winner, Bublé has sold more than 50 million records and performed for millions around the globe.
