Canadian funnyman Martin Short will be back at the helm of the Canadian Screen Awards in the new year, organizers announced today.

The SCTV and Saturday Night Live alum and Tony Award-winner will host the 2014 gala on March 9 in Toronto.

"I'm thrilled to be back hosting the Canadian Screen Awards," the Hamilton, Ont. performer said in a statement.

"Actually it's more than a thrill, it's a contractual obligation."

Short memorably hosted the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards broadcast gala in March, making a grand entrance by flying in on wires, soaring above the audience, and peppering the evening with topical quips about Canadian entertainment and political subjects.

Administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, the fledgling CSA honour unites the formerly separate Genie Awards (the Canadian honour for English- and French-language films) and Gemini Awards (Canada's prize for English- and French-language TV and digital programming).

The Canadian Screen Awards take place at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Arts on Sunday, March 9, 2014 and will be broadcast live on CBC-TV.
