Mariah Carey engaged to billionaire James Packer: reports

Pop singer Mariah Carey and Australian billionaire James Packer are engaged after a high-profile, globe-trotting romance, according to reports.

Casino mogul Packer proposed to the Grammy-winner Carey, who accepted, in New York Thursday evening, their representatives confirmed to media outlets including the Daily Mail Australia and E! 

The pair, meeting friends for dinner, was captured by photographers in New York, with Carey smiling widely and flashing a significant diamond ring on her left hand.

It will be the third marriage for both Carey, 46, and Packer, 47. 

The pair were introduced by filmmaker Brett Ratner, one of Packer's close friends and associates, and have since been seen vacationing together worldwide and attending red carpets for entertainment industry events. 

'I'm lucky, too'

Carey, who has also performed at some of Packer's casinos, gushed about her relationship in November with comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey. 

"We first met in Aspen, ironically," she told Harvey. "We were at the Hercules premiere and we were talking and laughing and people were getting mad at us. So we hit it off."

"Ain't he lucky?" Harvey said.

"I'm lucky, too," she replied.

The singer has two children with second husband, actor Nick Cannon, and was previously married to music industry executive Tommy Mottola. Though she hasn't released as many hits as earlier in her career, Carey nonetheless placed ninth on Forbes' 2015 list of the top-earning women in music and is in the middle of a lucrative Las Vegas residency.

Packer, the executive chair of casino giant Crown Resorts, was previously married to model and singer Erica Packer, with whom he has three children. His first marriage was to model Jodhi Meares.
