Sketch-comedy series Mad TV returning on The CW network
The CW orders 8 new 1-hour episodes of show that originally ran from 1995 - 2009 on Fox
The sketch comedy series Mad TV is making a comeback.
The CW network said it will air eight new one-hour episodes. The show's format will include its signature pop-culture parodies and "politically incorrect humour," the network said Monday.
Cast members were not announced, but CW said the reincarnated Mad TV will star up-and-coming comedy voices. The show's hosts will be cast members from the original late-night series, which aired on Fox from 1995 to 2009.
Episodes from that 14-season run are available to stream on CW Seed, the CW's digital network. The CW brought many of the show's original cast together in January for a special that celebrated the series' 20th anniversary.
Jack Black, Halle Berry, George Carlin and Jay Z were among the many celebrities who appeared on the show.
"The Mad TV franchise is as vibrant as ever thanks largely to social and digital media appealing to a fan base numbering in the millions that relates to the show's brand of authentic and irreverent cross-cultural comedy," executive producer David Salzman said in a statement.
"We will continue to present the hard-hitting, laugh-out-loud wall-to-wall pop culture parody our fans expect, but in a fresh, new way."
A premiere date for the new Mad TV was not announced.
