Joni Mitchell had an aneurysm, is 'not speaking yet' says David Crosby

Fellow musician David Crosby says that Canadian folk legend Joni Mitchell is recovering at home but that to the best of his knowledge, "she is not speaking yet."

Fellow musician David Crosby says that Canadian folk legend Joni Mitchell is recovering at home but that to the best of his knowledge, "she is not speaking yet."

Crosby said it was an aneurysm that sent Mitchell to a Los Angeles hospital in late March, adding that he hasn't spoken with her since before the incident.

"She is home, she is in care, she is in recovery. How that's going to go, we don't know yet. She took a terrible hit," said Crosby in an interview with HuffPost Live published on Friday afternoon.

"She's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury."

Mitchell, 71, was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons and the latest post on the singer's unofficial website — on April 28 — said she was still in the hospital and "a full recovery is expected."

An attorney told a judge in early May that Mitchell could not confer with doctors about her medical care or long-term treatment.

The assessment by attorney Alan Watenmaker compelled a judge to place the singer-songwriter's longtime friend in charge of health care decisions for Mitchell.

"We're all holding our breath and thinking a good thought, hoping that it's going to turn out okay," Crosby said.
