Jon Batiste closed out the Grammy awards on Sunday with five awards including album of the year, while Silk Sonic took home four awards including record of the year and song of the year.

Singer Olivia Rodrigo also came out on top with three Grammys including best new artist, best pop solo performance for Driver's License and best pop album for Sour at the award show; she was nominated for seven Grammys.

Silk Sonic, the pop-funk duo made up of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, also picked up awards for best R&B performance and best R&B song. Canadian recording engineer Charles Moniz was also honoured with a Grammy for his work on the duo's single Leave the Door Open.

Earlier, Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell picked up a Grammy for best historical album for Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) during the non-televised portion of the award show on Sunday.

The 78-year-old was also honoured at the 2022 MusiCares Person of the year gala on Friday.

Cuban Canadian performer Alex Cuba also picked up his first Grammy for best Latin pop album during the non-televised portion of the show. Montreal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin also picked up his first Grammy for best orchestral performance.

The Weeknd also picked up a Grammy during the non-televised portion of the award show for best melodic rap performance for his feature on Hurricane by rapper Kanye West. Both the Weeknd and Toronto rapper Drake have torn their relationship with the Recording Academy. Last March, the Weeknd said he was boycotting the Grammys while Drake withdrew his nominations for 2022 in November.

Hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, the show was postponed in January amid rising cases of COVID-19 and scheduling conflicts. It's the first time the Grammys have been hosted outside of Los Angeles since the show was held at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2018.

Singer Jon Batiste led the nominations with 11, while Doja Cat, H.E.R. and Canada's Justin Bieber each had eight. Other Canadians nominated this year include Peterborough, Ont., producer Greg Wells and Hamilton's Caribou.
