On the surface, The Lego Movie is a product placement campaign disguised as a feature-length film and a sign of everything that's wrong with Hollywood today.

Still, the end result is charming and actually funny, admits CBC film reviewer Eli Glasner.

The filmmakers succeed in emulating the fan-made Lego movies littering the internet, albeit with a star-studded cast that includes the voices of Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Liam Neeson and Will Ferrell.
