Costello, Feist to play at Gemini gala

Singers Elvis Costello and Leslie Feist are to perform as part of the 25th annual Gemini Awards gala on Saturday.

British musician Costello is nominated for best talk series for his music chat show Spectacle.

Organizers have also lined up singer Ron Sexsmith, fiddler Kendel Carson and bassist Barry Bales for the annual celebration of the best in Canadian television.

The broadcast gala for the Geminis is to be hosted by Glee star Cory Monteith.

This year's gala will include a tribute to Degrassi, the Canadian youth TV franchise that extends from The Kids of Degrassi Street, which debuted in 1979, to the current incarnation, Degrassi.

Degrassi alumni Nina Dobrev, Stefan Brogren, Amanda Stepto, Adamo Ruggiero, Cassie Steele, Lauren Collins and Melinda Shankar are set to appear.

Presenters include CBC's Rick Mercer, Murdoch Mysteries star Hélène Joy, The Line's Clé Bennett and The Listener's Ennis Esmer.

The Gemini Awards will be aired on Showcase and Global.

Nominees for best drama this year include The Tudors, Flashpoint, Durham County, Republic of Doyle and Stargate Universe.

Dan for Mayor, Less Than Kind, Little Mosque on the Prairie, Pure Pwnage and Rick Mercer Report are up for best comedy.
