Charlie Sheen born Carlos Irwin Estevez

Charlie Sheen and his father, Martin Sheen, present an award at the 2006 Emmys. Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estevez (his dad's birth name is Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez) on Sept. 3,1965, and began following in his father's footsteps as an actor early on.

1st major movie role 

Members of the cast of Platoon — Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger — reunite for the film's 20th anniversary during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2006. Sheen's first major acting role was in the 1986 Vietnam War film, which launched him to fame.

Charlie's angels: Sheen's 3 wives

Charlie Sheen and his second wife, actress Denise Richards, watch a baseball game in New York in 2012. Sheen and Richards were a couple from 2002 to 2006 and have two daughters together. Sheen has been wed three times, marrying model Donna Peele in the 1990s, followed by Richards in 2002 and real estate broker Brooke Mueller in 2008.

Troubles with the law

Sheen in a photo released by police in Aspen, Colo., in 2009. The actor was arrested for assaulting his then-wife, Brooke Mueller. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanour assault and was sentenced to rehab, probation and anger management (real anger management, not the TV show).

Charitable activities

Sheen shares a light moment with former Toronto Blue Jay Joe Carter before the start of a Major League Baseball game in August 2012. Sheen threw out the ceremonial first pitch and participated in the Joe Carter charity golf tournament that year. The actor has supported various charitable causes throughout his career, including Aid for AIDS, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by the disease.

Stint as Charlie Harper on 'Two and a Half Men'

Fired from show and replaced by Ashton Kutcher 

Sheen was dismissed from his starring role on Two and a Half Men in 2011 after behaving erratically for weeks and publicly insulting the producers. Ashton Kutcher replaced the fired actor until the show ended its run earlier this year.

Sheen claims he has 'tiger blood' during infamous meltdown

Sheen arrives for a taping of his Comedy Central roast in September 2011, following his dismissal from Two and a Half Men earlier that year. After he was fired from the show, Sheen had a highly publicized meltdown, suggesting in TV interviews that he was a "warlock" with "tiger blood."

Passes the torch as highest-paid TV actor

Actor Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory accepts the award for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series from presenter Charlie Sheen at the Emmys in September 2011. Sheen was paid nearly $2 million US per episode during the eighth season of Two and a Half Men, making him one of TV's highest-paid actors at the time. Forbes has listed Parsons as the highest-paid TV actor for 2015, with $29 million US in estimated earnings.
