Pop star Britney Spears will debut a 2-year residency in Las Vegas

Britney Spears is bound for Las Vegas, with the former teen pop star set to perform dozens of shows over the next two years.

Spears, 31, announced her forthcoming two-year residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino during an early morning TV appearance today.

"I'm definitely ready," she told ABC's Good Morning America, adding that she has been training for five hours a day in preparation.

The upcoming show, entitled Britney: Piece of Me, will debut on Dec. 27. Spears said it would be action-packed, high-energy and combine her greatest hits with her latest material. The former Mouseketeer, who debuted as a singer at the age of 16, is known for songs like ...Baby One More Time, Oops! I Did It Again, Toxic, Womanizer and Gimme More.

Altogether, she is slated to play 50 shows a year in 2014 and 2015.

The Las Vegas gig puts the performer in good company: in recent years, top stars such as Shania Twain, Céline Dion and Elton John have drawn huge audiences for their long-running residencies.

Spears is also set to release her eighth, as-yet-untitled album on Dec. 3, just ahead of her start in Las Vegas. The album's first track, Work Bitch, was released this week.
