Adele set for Grammy return after vocal cord surgery

British singer Adele, widely acknowledged as 2011's top artist, will mark her live performance comeback at the Grammy Awards.

Organizers of the U.S. musical honour confirmed on Tuesday that the celebrated 23-year-old artist will attend and take the stage to perform at the forthcoming Feb. 12 ceremony in Los Angeles.

It will be Adele's first live performance in five months — since undergoing vocal cord microsurgery in the fall. Her medical diagnosis forced her to cancel sold-out tour dates and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year.

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," Adele said in a statement released by the U.S. Recording Academy on Tuesday.

"It's an absolute honour to be included in such a night, and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."

Though she already has two Grammy trophies under her belt, Adele is one of the lead contenders in 2012 after earning six nominations, including record, song and album of the year.

Adele's sophomore album 21, which features hits like Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You, soared up the music charts, was one of 2011's bestselling releases and landed the singer atop many year-end best-of lists.

Other artists slated to take the Grammy stage in February include Kelly Clarkson, The Band Perry, Rihanna, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney.

The 54th annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J.

Adele is also a lead contender for the BRIT Awards, taking place in London Feb. 21, and is also slated to perform at that ceremony.
