A titanic duo: Gibson, DiCaprio join forces for Viking film
Mel Gibson is slated to direct a film about Vikings starring Leonardo DiCaprio, marking the first time the pair have ever worked together
The untitled drama is being produced by Graham King, who was behind The Departed, another movie starring DiCaprio.
"This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry's finest cinematic talent and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel [and] Leo," said Graham King, the film's producer, in a statement released to Variety magazine.
Filming is set to launch in the fall of 2010.
DiCaprio, who will be on screen in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island in February, is now working on the Christopher Nolan-directed Inception.
The 53-year-old Gibson has just wrapped up The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster.
Gibson is no stranger to directing, having helmed the Oscar-winning Braveheart, The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto.
