Royal commission on government accountability promised by PCs

P.E.I. Progressive Conservative Party Leader Rob Lantz announced Wednesday that a government under his leadership would strike a royal commission on accountability in government.

He says the commission's mandate will be to conduct a thorough review of the administration of the provincial nominee program, the government's failed e-gaming venture, and the lending and writeoff practices of government.

Lantz says the Commission would be struck through the Public Inquiries Act and would have subpoena powers and the ability to engage professional support services to achieve its mandate.

"I entered public life because I believe that our province needs a new direction," said Lantz in a news release.

"We need to set a new course for government that places public accountability at the forefront of everything that it does."
