P.E.I.'s Progressive Conservatives have announced a new candidate for District 15, West Royalty-Springvale.

Charlottetown businesswoman Linda Clements will be the candidate. She replaces Shawn Driscoll, who resigned Thursday after details emerged about unresolved impaired driving charges in Alberta.

Clements ran for the Progressive Conservatives in Charlottetown-Brighton in 2011, losing to Robert Ghiz by 529 votes.

The announcement came half an hour before the 2 p.m. Friday nomination deadline.

Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz said Thursday that party polling showed Driscoll was on his way to winning West Royalty-Springvale. Liberal incumbent Bush Dumville won by just 63 votes in 2011.
