The Windsor Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the nation's sesquicentennial Oct. 28 and 29 with a show called "O Canada!"

Based on a project by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the show involves the entire orchestra, plus Windsor musician Kelly Hoppe and Juno award-nominee Heather Bambrick.

"We've got a little bit of classic rock ... and then we've got that famous 'Canada' theme," explained WSO assistant conductor Peter Wiebe, in reference to the iconic song from Canada's centennial celebrations.

"We've got a Burton Cummings tune ... a medley from the lovely operetta musical Anne of Green Gables — everything in the program is through and through Canadian music."

The show also includes the Hockey Night in Canada theme, a tune Wiebe calls Canada's "unofficial national anthem."

CBC Windsor dropped by the Capitol Theatre Friday while the symphony was rehearsing for the show.
