A little more snow on the way, but winter storm warning lifted for Windsor-Essex

Windsor-Essex is digging out from a significant snowfall — and there's a little more on the way — but a winter storm warning for the area was lifted Sunday morning.

Windsor-Essex is digging out from a significant snowfall — and there's a little more on the way — but a winter storm warning for the area was lifted Sunday morning.

Environment Canada's warning for the Windsor area was in effect Saturday, which saw a mix of snow and freezing drizzle. The winter storm warning was cancelled on Sunday following heavy snow overnight. Now, a further two centimetres of snow is expected Sunday afternoon, with blowing snow and a chance of flurries in the evening.

Initially, Environment Canada said as much as 20 to 30 centimetres of snow could fall in Windsor-Essex over the weekend. But the area has not gotten the worst of the major storm, which is expected to wallop much of southern Ontario and beyond.

Areas north of Sarnia near Lake Huron are under a snow squall watch as of 1 p.m. Sunday, with anywhere from 30 to 60 centimetres of snow expected.

A storm warning remains in effect for much of southern Ontario, parts of Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
