23-year-old victim died in hospital from 'significant injuries:' police
A 23-year-old Windsor man has been charged with first degree murder after a man was shot and died Wednesday, according to Windsor police.
In a news release Thursday, Windsor police said a 23-year-old man died in hospital after officers received reports of a shooting Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Forest Glade Drive and Wildwood Drive.
The victim was found inside a vehicle with "significant injuries consistent with being shot multiple times," police said. Another 23-year-old male had been in the vehicle when the shooting happened, said police, and had non-life threatening injuries.
After an investigation, police said a suspect was found and believed to be in a home in the 2700 block of Lynngrove Court. The house was contained by the Emergency Services unit and around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, the suspect left the home and was arrested.
Police said they believe the suspect and victim knew each other and that multiple shots were fired after an "altercation" took place.
Windsor Police said they are still investigating the situation, but believe there is no risk to public safety and are not seeking any other suspects.
The 23-year-old suspect faces five charges, including first degree murder, attempted murder, failure to comply with a release order, breach of probation and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Police said they have also requested a search warrant for the home and are waiting for court approval to move forward. The vehicle that the shooting took place in was also seized as evidence.
The Forensic Identification Unit and Major Crime Unit were on scene investigating. Police are asking that anyone with surveillance cameras in the area to check for possible evidence.
