Windsor guitarist ready for the next step
'I'm going to write some really good music and work as hard as I possibly can'
A 22-year-old Windsor, Ont. guitarist might be on the verge of his big break.
Musician Christian Vegh has signed an artist development deal with RL Record — a company that partners with Universal Music.
"They have a really good artist relations program," said Vegh. "I'm developing some new music."
Born in Detroit, Mich. Vegh studied music in Boston after growing up in Windsor an attending Assumption College Catholic High School. He was named as one of the top 16 young guitarists internationally. Vegh has played at the Windsor Bluesfest, Caesars Windsor and at the International Children's Games. Some of his concerts have raised funds for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra scholarship program.
Making it onto RL Record's roster means Vegh will have some help with branding his image and promoting his music.
"I'm going to write some really good music and work as hard as I possibly can," said Vegh, who describes his music as a cross between Pink Floyd and John Mayer with a "more progressive spin."
When it comes to performance, Vegh doesn't have a particular artist he emulates — he's just doing the best he can.
He wasn't allowed to discuss contract specifics, but he artist development deal doesn't pay anything immediately. The extra promotion should mean a paycheque is coming Vegh's way soon.
