Detroit Grand Prix, Windsor reveal ticket, transit prices
The City of Windsor and Chevorelt Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix announced ticket pricing and transit options for Canadian race fans Tuesday morning.
This year, single-day general admission tickets start at $55 CAN, HST included. A reserved grandstand ticket costs $95 CAN.
At the announcement, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens promoted his council's decision to sponsor the Grand Prix, saying one of the perks comes in the form of discounted tickets for anyone crossing the border.
"At a time when our dollar doesn't quite have the purchasing power that it once did, it really can be a significant difference when you're bringing a family over to watch this type of world class event," he said.
The Canadian dollar was trading for 78 cents US on Tuesday afternoon.
Fans can purchase Detroit Grand Prix and travel packages online through snapdwindsor.com/grandprix or in person at the Windsor International Transit Terminal.
Detroit Grand Prix general manager, Michael Montri, also made a point to highlight the benefits to Windsor's sponsorship, saying more than 700 news media representatives from around the world will set up base camp at the City of Windsor International Media Centre.
Montri also talked about how the Canadian city will benefit from the nationally televised two-day event.
"That shot from above Belle Isle, where you see the City of Windsor on one side and the City of Detroit on the other, you can't buy coverage like that."
Fans who already have their Grand Prix tickets can also buy round-trip transportation at the terminal for $12.
Dilkens made the announcement at Festival Plaza in downtown Windsor with a Transit Windsor bus and Indy can behind him.
