A Windsor waste-disposal company has been fined $67,500 for environmental protection violations, which included storing hazardous waste on site.

Provincial inspectors visited Recycle City in the city's west end in June of 2015, issuing 11 orders. Inspectors returned 11 more times by September that same year and discovered several more infractions.

Recycle City had exceeded its waste volume limits and had stored waste outdoors too long, according to a news release issued by Ontario's Ministry of Environment.

The company failed to comply with the original orders by not submitting a host of documentation, including an annual report. It did not provide waste shipment refusal documentation, nor did it provide a spill contingency and emergency response plan.

Eventually the ministry's investigations and enforcement branch stepped in and charged the company. On June 15, the numbered company that owns Recycle City was convicted of seven offences and fined $67,500, plus a victim fine surcharge of $16,875.

The company has two years to pay the fine.
