Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent that will begin Monday and stick around throughout the week.

The weather authority said, starting on Canada Day, the temperature could hit 31 C — or 40 C with the humidex.

The temperature overnight will drop to 21 C, providing little relief from the heat, according to Environment Canada.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each day of the week, the weather agency said, with hot and humid conditions expected to stay until Saturday.

"Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion," Environment Canada said.
